Cobra Jr. Swim Club is a new swim program that was derived from Swim Canada’s long-term athlete development program and welcomes all skill levels. Progress occurs on an individual basis starting at 5 years of age. Cobra Jr. Swim Club program will build confidence in children both in and out of the water by creating an environment that is fun, educational and safe. By enjoying themselves children develop the love for the sport of swimming. For those not wishing to swim competitively, learning to swim will allow them to be confident in trying such activities as boating, fishing, water skiing and canoeing. Most of the swim experts are current or former swimmers themselves with up to date qualifications. The Jr. Swim Club is an exciting COBRA Program that will teach children the fundamental skills of swimming, improving coordination in the water and improve overall fitness in a fun and refreshing environment. Child to Swim Expert ratio begins at 5 to 1.
Level 1
This level helps children get comfortable in the water. It also introduces floats, glides and kicking in the beginning and then moving onto more difficult skills with learning front and back crawl with assistance of the instructor. By the end of the level, children should also feel comfortable in deep water with the instructor.
Level 2
Freestyle and backstroke continue to be taught with adding in proper techniques of the stroke in this level. The children will also learn the basics of breaststroke kick and breaststroke arms separately. Diving and treading water are introduced in this level. The instructor will focus more on the technical aspects of both freestyle and backstroke.
Level 3
Freestyle and backstroke continue to be taught with concentration on kicking endurance and swimming endurance. Breaststroke is introduced with the focus being on the timing of the stroke. The children will also learn the basics of butterfly arms and butterfly kick separately. Flip turns are introduced and evaluated as well. The instructor will focus more on the technical aspects of breaststroke.
Level 4
With an endurance swim of 400 – 600 meters, children will learn racing pace, racing techniques, and overall racing strategies. The instructor will focus on encouraging proper technique while swimming competitively in a fun and safe environment. The individual medley will be introduced with the focus on swimming the four competitive strokes in correct order.
