Our Swimmers Hold the Fort in the 2012 COBRA Cash Challenge
COBRA Swim Club kicked off the new year by hosting their annual weekend 2012 Cash Challenge Swim Meet at our own McMurchy Pool in Brampton. COBRA’s Olympic Way, Junior, Youth, National Development and National Group swimmers attended the three-day event held on January 6th to the 8th. COBRA’s athletes displayed their swimming skills against other great athletes from the region. Compliments to the coaching staff lead by National Group and Head Coach Bill O’Toole, National Development Coach Tony Cowx, Junior Coach Jorge Neves, Youth Coach Casey Beck and Olympic Way Coach Ian Rooperine. Congratulations to all the swimmers from the novice athletes to the experienced National level athletes for swimming exceptionally well throughout the weekend. Here are your medalists.
COBRA 10 & Under Age Group Swimmers
In the female 10 & Under Martine Nyhof had an outstanding weekend finishing 1st in the 50m butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, 200m individual medley, 100m breaststroke, 2nd in the 100m butterfly and 3rd in the 50m and 400mfreestyle, 100m backstroke and 200m breaststroke. Alisha Learning finished 1st in the 400m freestyle, 2nd in the 800m freestyle and 3rd in the 50m butterfly, 200m individual medley and 100m freestyle. Shailyn MacQueen completed her weekend with a 3rd place finish in the 50m backstroke and 200m freestyle. Sophia Buu finished 1st in the 50m freestyle, 2nd in the 50m breaststroke, 100m and 200m freestyle and 200m backstroke. Stephanie Schweigl finished with some great wins capturing 1st in the 100m freestyle, 200m breaststroke, 2nd in the 50m and 400m freestyle, 200m individual medley and 3rd in the 50m and 100m breaststroke, 200m backstroke and 800m freestyle. Aysan Tabrizi finished 3rd in the 200m butterfly. Kylie Collier finished 3rd in the 100m butterfly and Kiera Brough took 1st place in the 800m freestyle. Bianca Mitchell finished 2nd in the 50m butterfly.
COBRA 11 & Under Age Group Swimmers
In the boys 11 & Under category Alfonso Menanno had an exceptional weekend finishing 1st in the 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke, 50m breaststroke, 50m freestyle, 200m breaststroke and 2nd in the 200m individual medley, 100m and 200m backstroke, 800m freestyle, 100m butterfly and 3rd in the 100m breaststroke. Ethan Wilson finished 2nd in the 50m butterfly and 3rd in the 50m breaststroke. Ben Xiao captured 1st place in the 800m freestyle, 2nd in the 50m breaststroke, 400m freestyle and 3rd place in the 50m and 100m butterfly, 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke, 50m freestyle and 200m breaststroke. Barstow Nyhof was not far behind finishing 2nd in the 50m backstroke, 50m freestyle, 200m breaststroke and 3rd in the 800m freestyle.
In the girls 11 years of age category Linden Chung finished with a 1st place in the 50m butterfly, 50m breaststroke and 3rd in the 100m breaststroke. Breanna Campbell finished 2nd in the 50m butterfly. Meghan Maddock finished 3rd in the 50m butterfly and 400m freestyle. Victoria Cabraja finished 1st in the 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle, 2nd in the 50m breaststroke and 800m freestyle and 3rd in the 200m freestyle. Riley Auld finished 2nd in the 50m backstroke and 3rd in the 50m freestyle. Cassandra Dalbec finished 2nd in the 50m and 400m freestyle and 3rd in the 50m backstroke. Dana King finished 1st in the 400m freestyle and 3rd in the 50m breaststroke. Hannah Longpre finished 1st in the 100m breaststroke, 2nd in the 200m breaststroke and 3rd in the 800m freestyle and 400m individual medley. Way to go girls!
The 12-Year-Old Winners!
In the female 12 years of age category there was no stopping Cierra Glysz this weekend. She finished 1st in all her events, 50m, 100m and 200m butterfly, 50m and 100m backstroke, 50m and 100m breaststroke, 50m, 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle. Kiara Seow finished 1st in the 800m freestyle, and captured 2nd in the 50m and 100m butterfly, 50m backstroke, 50m breaststroke, 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle, 200m individual medley and 3rd in the 400m freestyle. Chloe Francoeur finished 3rd in the 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke, 50m breaststroke. Kersten Chong finished 3rd in the 50m freestyle.
In the male 12 years of age category Aran Pourawal finished 1st in the 50m butterfly, 50m breaststroke, 2nd in the 50m freestyle and 3rd in the 400m individual medley. The Beals competed side by side with Andrew Beals finishing 1st in the 50m backstroke, 200m breaststroke, 2nd in the 50m butterfly, 3rd in the 50m breaststroke, 50m freestyle. Connor Beals finished 2nd in the 50m backstroke and 200m breaststroke, 3rd in the 50m, 200m butterfly and 100m breaststroke. Stefano Mitchell finished 1st in the 50m freestyle, 2nd in the 50m breaststroke and 3rd in the 50m backstroke and 100m freestyle.
The 13-Year-Old Winners!
In the female 13 years of age age category Tessa Cieplucha dominated the meet finishing 1st in the 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke, 50m and 100m breaststroke, 50m and 800m freestyle, 200m individual medley, 2nd in the 100m and 400m freestyle and 100m butterfly. Hayley Lineham was outstanding and finished 1st in the 100m backstroke, 100m butterfly, 200m freestyle and 400m individual medley, 2nd in the 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke, 50m, 100m and 800m freestyle. Vivianna Choi finished 2nd in the 200m breaststroke, 3rd in the 50m butterfly, 50m breaststroke and 400m freestyle. Sabrina Phongphilack finished 1st in the 200m breaststroke and 200m backstroke, 2nd in the 50m breaststroke and 400m individual medley, 3rd in the 50m backstroke, 50m freestyle, 200m individual medley and 100m breaststroke.
In the male 13 years of age category Matthew Ahola had some huge wins finishing 1st in the 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke, 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke, 50m and 100m freestyle, 2nd in the 200m backstroke. Kavinda Karunaratne finished 1st in the 200m butterfly, 2nd in the 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke, 50m breaststroke, 50m and 400m freestyle. Spencer Ogston finished 3rd in the 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke, 50m breaststroke, 50m freestyle.
The Wins Continue for the 14 Year Olds!
In the female 14 years of age category Bayley Dalbec finished 1st in the 50m butterfly, 2nd in the 50m and 200m backstroke, 50m, 100m and 400m freestyle. Anyssa Walani finished 2nd in the 50m and 100m butterfly, 3rd in the 50m backstroke, 50m breaststroke and 50m freestyle. Danicca Sinanan had wonderful results finishing 1st in the 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke, 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke, 50m and 200m freestyle, 200m individual medley, 100m butterfly, 2nd in the 100m freestyle, 3rd in the 50m and 200m butterfly. Sarah Maddock finished 1st in the 400m freestyle, 2nd in the 100m breaststroke, 3rd in the 50m breaststroke and 800m freestyle. Sara McLeod finished 1st in the 200m butterfly. Nimrata Virk finished 1st in the 400m individual medley, 2nd in the 100m and 200m butterfly. Mikayla Longpre finished 2nd in the 200m breaststroke, 3rd in the 100m breaststroke. Elise Chung finished 3rd in the 200m breaststroke. Parvir Basra finished 3rd in the 200m backstroke and 400m freestyle.
In the male 14 years of age category Liam Ryan finished 1st in the 50m butterfly, 2nd in the 50m, 100m, 200m and 800m freestyle, 400m individual medley and 3rd in the 50m backstroke and 200m individual medley. Navraj Kalra ended the weekend with 1st place finishes in the 50m backstroke, 50m, 100m and 400m freestyle, 2nd in the 50m and 200m butterfly, 100m backstroke and 3rd in the 50m breaststroke. Jonathan Lewis finished 2nd in the 100m butterfly and 3rd in the 50m butterfly. Calvin Rai finished 1st in the 50m and 100m breaststroke, 200m backstroke, 2nd in the 50m backstroke and 200m freestyle and 3rd in the 100m backstroke. Qile Wang finished 2nd in the 50m breaststroke and 400m freestyle. Oscar Elhanafey finished 1st in the 200m and 400m individual medley, 2nd in the 200m backstroke and 3rd in the 50m freestyle and 100m breaststroke. Sean Aguiar finished 2nd in the 200m breaststroke.
15 Year Old Winners!
In the female 15 years of age category Bavindeep Basra swam to victory winning 1st in the 50m, 100m and 200m butterfly, 200m and 400m individual medley, 200m breaststroke, 200m backstroke, 200m and 400m freestyle, 2nd in the 50m and 100m backstroke, 50m and 100m freestyle and 50m breaststroke. Paige Hall was the 1st place winner in the 50m and 100m backstroke, 50m and 100m freestyle, 2nd in the 50m and 200m butterfly, 200m individual medley and 200m breaststroke. Edna Banjanovic captured 3rd in the 50m butterfly and 50m freestyle. Natasha Cyr was the 2nd place winner in the 200m backstroke, 3rd in the 50m and 100m backstroke. Katrina Bhagaloo won 1st place in the 50m and 100m breaststroke, 2nd in the 200m breaststroke, 3rd in the 200m backstroke and 200m freestyle. Stephanie Pickering earned a 2nd place in the 400m freestyle and 3rd in the 50m breaststroke. Isabelle Francoeur finished 3rd in the 100m breaststroke and Tatiana Hernandez also finished 3rd in the 400m freestyle.
In the male 15 years of age category Jacob Ahola had an incredible weekend finishing 1st in the 50m butterfly, 50m and 100m freestyle, 2nd in the 100m butterfly. David Aguilera captured many wins finishing 1st place in the 100m and 200m butterfly, 800m freestyle, 400m individual medley, 2nd in the 50m butterfly, 200m freestyle, 3rd in the 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle. Christopher Manson came in 3rd in the 50m butterfly. Daniel Manson took home many wins beginning with 1st place in the 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke, 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke, 200m individual medley, 200m freestyle, 2nd in the 50m and 800m freestyle and 3rd in the 100m freestyle. Austin Learning finished 2nd in the 50m backstroke, 200m butterfly, 200m individual medley and 3rd in the 100m and 200m backstroke. Danai Sisouphanh completed his weekend with 2nd place wins in the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke. Michael Neves earned two 2nd place finishes in the 100m backstroke and100m freestyle, 3rd in the 50m and 200m breaststroke, 200m individual medley and100m butterfly. Aidan Zagar finished 2nd in the 200m backstroke and 3rd in the 200m butterfly. Creighton Thicke-Rattray captured a 1st place win in the 400m freestyle and 2nd place finishes in the 200m and 800m freestyle. Aaron Rai finished 3rd in the 100m breaststroke. Billy Korekiyo finished 2nd in the 400m freestyle and 400m individual medley and Logan Zettle concluded the meet with a 3rd place win in the 400m freestyle.
Our 16 & Over Winners!
Michael Belanger collected 1st place wins in the 50m, 100m, 200m butterfly, 50m and 200m freestyle, 2nd in the 50m backstroke, 200m individual medley, 100m freestyle and 3rd in the 50m and 100m breaststroke. Myles Zagar also had countless wins finishing 1st in the 50m, 100m, 200m backstroke, 50m, 200m breaststroke, 200m individual medley, 800m freestyle, 2nd in the 50m, 200m butterfly, 50m freestyle and 3rd in the 100m butterfly. Alex Kyriacopoulos finished 2nd in the 200m butterfly and 3rd in the 50m butterfly. Connor Maddock ended the weekend with 2nd place finishes in the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke, 3rd in the 50m backstroke and 200m individual medley. Chris Caldwell finished 1st in the 400m freestyle, 2nd in the 800m freestyle and 3rd in the 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle and 100m backstroke.
